|What is Hypnosis and how does it work
|“Hypnosis” or “hypnotic trance” is an altered state of consciousness that involves
comfortable relaxation, or a redirection of attention, and using an active sensory
imagination. It is a special state of what is called “resting alertness”. While
a person is in this altered state, that person’s focus of attention can be redirected
to what is important for the session’s theme and topic.
The interview with a new client will involve asking the client what he or she thinks hypnosis is. Replies range from sleep, to unconsciousness, to surrender of mental powers and control, or magic, to even voodoo or the work of the devil. None of these are true.
Hypnosis cannot be sleep. In most cases the subject is fully aware of communication and is able to respond on request either verbally or by signal. On the other hand unconsciousness is also not involved. When a subject is asked to make a specific movement they will comply with the request unless it is objectionable, and in that case will be refused by the individual.
There is no surrender of mind or control. If a person does not want to be hypnotized they cannot be hypnotized or made to say or do anything which violates personal standards of their behavior or integrity. You cannot be made to cluck like a chicken or bark like a dog!
Hypnosis is often misunderstood or thought of as only entertainment, magic or some mystical form of mind control.
Hypnosis is actually a powerful, perfectly safe, self programming technique that can help you accomplish your personal and professional goals or improve your overall health and wellness.
Your hypnotherapist works as your teacher and guide, teaching you self hypnosis and guiding you the reprogramming of your subconscious mind that will allow you to make the positive and beneficial changes you desire to make.
Since 1958 the American Medical Association has approved the use of Clinical Hypnosis. Since then, it has become widely recognized as a powerful tool for dynamic, safe, natural effective short-term inexpensive and goal oriented.
